Director Brett Ratner Don Mischer will produce the Academy Awards telecast this year. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences made the announcement this past week. Mischer co produced last years show and this will be a first for Ratner. They both have the difficult task of giving the Oscars a fresher look. The Academy is desperately trying to make it a more hip awards show. My concern is that in their attempt to reach a broader audience, Academy members are going to vote for more of the popular films this year. Nominating a movie like WIN WIN is not going to bring a wider audience, but HARRY POTTER will.
