MOVIES TO SEE BEFORE OSCAR NIGHT

My goal every year is to see as many Oscar contenders as possible. It is rather difficult. Either the movies aren't shown in my area, they come and go too soon, some of the movies I see end up out of the race or they all pile up at the end of the year and I just run out of time. I started early, but there are still many to see as well as some that I have no desire. I made a list of all of the films you should see before Oscar night. Some, like TRANSFORMERS are on the list for their possible technical nominations.  Or THE MUPPETS for best song. Here is the list with the star indicating movies I have seen. I have a long way to go. Please feel free to comment on the movies you have seen from the list.

  1. Last year, I found EW's 25 Movies to see before the Oscars. By the time I had seen every one, it was at least 5 months or more after the Oscars because I had to wait for so many to come out on DVD. I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed seeing so many movies I never would have seen otherwise had it not been for that list.

  3. That is a great point. Even if you cant see them before the Oscars. It is still a great list of movies to see. Plus many of the good ones fall out of the Oscar race, but are still great films.

  4. I, too, use EW's 25 Movies to see before the Oscars. I saw 19 of the 25 last year. As you have written, some movies don't show in my city. I do drive a fair distance to see as many as I can. I agree with TheReader23 that I've seen movies I'd never have seen if it weren't for the List. I just saw The Artist. It's really worth seeing. I'm sure there will be a nomination or two there.

  5. I just found EW's 2012 list online and have only seen 4 of them so far...so I definitely have my work cut out for me. Many of them are already on Matt's list but I see a few additions. I've just added them all into my Ipad Notes and will check them off and rate them as I see them.
