INELIGIBLE FOR A WGA

Some big movies this year are ineligible for the Writer's Guild of America awards. THE KING'S SPEECH for example cannot be considered since it does not meet the "guild's Minimum Basic Agreement, or the agreements of several affiliated international guilds". In other words the writers were not in the union so they can't be considered. Other movies out of the running are:

Another Year
Biutiful
Blue Valentine
The Ghost Writer
Green Zone
How to Train Your Dragon
Love and Other Drugs
Made in Dagenham
Never Let Me Go
Nowhere Boy
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
Toy Story 3
The Way Back
Winter’s Bone

It is interesting to note that movies rarely win Best Picture or screenplay without a WGA nomination. GLADIATOR in 2000 was the last time a film won an Academy Award for Best Picture without a WGA nomination.
