The Oscar ballots get shipped out today to all of the Academy voters.  It's interesting to note that some of the voters do not see all of the films that they vote for. Some just vote according to the buzz or word of mouth. They all receive screeners, but often there are too many for them to see before they have to get them mailed back in. Here is the timeline:

FRIDAY, JANUARY 14: Ballots must be returned by 5pm PT
TUESDAY, JANUARY 25: Nominations announced
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 2: Final ballots mailed
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 7: Nominees luncheon
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 12: Scientific and technical awards presented
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 22: Final ballots due by 5pm PT
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 27: Oscars ceremony
