OSCAR FOREIGN LANGUAGE SHORTLIST

The Academy announced their short list of possible foreign language nominees. The reason they do this is so that the voters only have to view 9 foreign language films rather than the original 63. I would imagine this keeps from people voting for movies they haven't seen. Which apparently happens more than you would think. Surprisingly LE HARVE and FLOWERS OF WAR were left out. Besides A SEPARATION I have not heard of the others on the list. No doubt A SEPARATION will win the Oscar. That explains my biased photo. Some are even predicting a Best Picture nomination.

 Iran, “A Separation,” Asghar Farhadi
 Poland, “In Darkness,” Agnieszka Holland
 Israel, “Footnote,” Joseph Cedar, director;
Germany, “Pina,” Wim Wenders
Canada, “Monsieur Lazhar,” Philippe Falardeau
Belgium, “Bullhead,” Michael R. Roskam
Morocco, “Omar Killed Me,” Roschdy Zem
Denmark, “Superclásico,” Ole Christian Madsen
Taiwan, “Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale,” Wei Te-sheng
