BEST VISUAL EFFECTS

 The Academy Awards Visual Effects Branch committee has narrowed down the list of possible films for Best Visual Effects. This category starts with 15 then is narrowed to 10. Clips from the 10 finalists will be shown to the voters on January 19th. That is when they will narrow it down to the final 5 that will be nominated. Super 8, Cowboys and Aliens, Sherlock Holmes, Sucker Punch and Thor all dropped out.  Here are the chosen 10:

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2"
"Hugo"
"Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol"
"Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides"
"Real Steel"
"Rise of the Planet of the Apes"
"Transformers: Dark of the Moon"
"The Tree of Life"
"X-Men: First Class"

  1. I haven't seen The Tree of Life. It had visual effects?

  2. I am ashamed to admit that I have not seen it yet either, but I did hear that the first 20 minutes is all visual effects.
